Seymour Marine Discovery Center – Santa Cruz

The learning center is temporarily closed to the public however you can still explore the outdoor whale exhibits as well as overlook the ocean at the look-out point. Though closed, the center is still holding virtual events and programs.

Seymour Marine Discovery Center is a community supported marine science education center.
Their mission is to educate people about the role that scientific research plays in understanding and conserving the world’s oceans.

We visited Ms. Blue; one of the largest skeletons and one of four blue whale skeletons on display in North America. She washed ashore in 1979 near Santa Cruz and assembled in 1985.

We also saw the Gray Whale outdoor skeleton exhibit. This whale was stranded in the South SF Bay in 1990.

There’s a outlook point that overlooks a majority of the ocean where you can see for miles on a clear day.
